  • 1. The Kats Knoll Blinkie Maker is different from some makers due to the lack of color. This enables you to color them yourself in your paint program allowing you to match the colors exactly to your own preference by using the dropper tool.

  • 2. The Pixel Add-Ons were made exclusively by Kats Knoll for use of visitors only when making blinkies.

  • 3. Begin by placing your cursor on the blinkie block you wish to use and while holding down the button, drag the block into the table provided for creating your blinkie. (Located below).

  • 4. Add text to your blocks by draging appropriate letters onto the blocks.

  • 5. Add any pixel add-ons, by draging them into the table provided.

  • 6. Perform a Screen Shot by capturing the table where you created your blinkie, and paste the data into your graphic program. (See Information Below for Creating a Screen Shot.)

To perfrom a screen shot (sometimes called a screen capture) you will be creating a copy of the screen's contents that can be saved as a graphics file or copied into a document or graphics program. Various programs are available for creating screen shots, but it is easy to do without any special program.

One of the most useful buttons on your keyboard may be one you have never used before. Glance at your keyboard and notice next to the F12 function key a button called "PrtScnSysRq." What is this and why should you know about it?

When you press this button, your computer will save the image that is currently on your screen to memory. You can then open your graphics program and paste that information, to be edited and saved as a new image file.

To copy you blinkie follow these instructions.

  • 1. Bring up your screen to show the table where you created your blinkie, and then press the PrtScnSysRq key (it is located in the upper right corner of the keyboard directly above the arrow keys. (this action will copy the picture shown in your monitor to your clipboard. The clipboard is a place in memory that stores information that has been recently copied)

    To create your blinkie:

  • 1. Open up any image editing program and paste the blinkie you created by using the paste shortcut, (i.e. holding down the Control button and press the V button). For this part you can use any editing program you desire, Adobe Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, Windows Paint, Microsoft Image Composer.

  • 2. Edit, change colors, crop, make transparent, resize - whatever you need and save your image.

  • 3. Duplicate the image once for each letter in your signature. (i.e. - Kat, my name, would take three frames to create a blinkie)

  • 4. With your three frames visible, change the color of your first blinkie block to a color you prefer by filling the block with your paintbrush. Move to the second frame and change the color of your second blinkie block to a color your prefer by filling the second block with your paintbrush. Repeat this technique for each subsequent block.

  • 5. After completing each block, select the procedure to view your animation and when you are satisfied with the results, save the animation to your computer.
